My First Premiere Experience.

Okay, so this has nothing to do with writing. But it has everything to do with my career and this is my blog, so I can write whatever I want.

This past Thursday (March 1st, 2018) I went to my first ever feature film premiere. I worked on “Water in a Broken Glass” as a script supervisor, but I was also credited in a couple other production roles, because let’s face it — when you’re working on a small production it’s all hands on deck. The film was written and directed by Jamelle Williams-Thomas. We had a female lead cast and female driven crew. It was an amazing experience to be on set with so many talented women.

I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into the venue with my husband in tow. When we arrived, there was already a huge line waiting to get their will call tickets and enter the theater. It was amazing and shocking to see so many people had shown up for this movie! Everyone was dressed up and looked amazing. It was awesome to have our entire main cast show up to this event as well. I felt like we were at a high school reunion. Some of us haven’t seen each other in over a year and a half so it was just great to be able to catch up.

When the lights dimmed and the movie started playing, I was so nervous. I heard my director behind me saying along the lines of “I’m so nervous, I can’t breathe. Please come out okay.” I held onto my husband’s hand as the first scene started and exhaled. It’s on, it looked beautiful, and the rest of the film continued on without a hitch. It was great to hear the audience laugh and react to the film. I loved watching the scenes that gave us such a hard time to film and seeing it turn out AMAZING. I kept thinking, I remember where I was sitting for this scene, or that line delivery was on point!

Let me tell you what it felt like to see my name rolling on the credits. First, it was like wait was that my name? And then it was like, OH MY GOD, I’m on there. I’m finally up there on the big screen with my name, EMI SANO, scrolling up. One of the cast members was sitting near me and she was as excited for me as I was. Of course I took a video of the whole thing and I was just over the moon.

After the premiere, we celebrated together as cast and crew by congratulating each other with the success. It was a sold out show, by the way, and we didn’t find out until later that night.

It was overall a fantastic night. I couldn’t have been more proud of our little production. I cannot wait until this gets screened at more theaters and everyone can enjoy this movie as much as we had fun making it.
